Fighting for the next round

Point guard Dusan Djordjevic has played for Telenet Ostend for the better part of the last four seasons. Djordjevic had previously played in Serbia, Russia, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovenia before arriving to Ostend, where he has played three full Eurocup seasons and lifted as many Belgian League titles.

Club info
Telenet Ostend showed itself to be a rising force in continental basketball last season and now looks to reach the highest level via the Turkish Airlines Euroleague qualifying rounds. Ostend almost got there last year after knocking off favored Khimki and Banvit in the first games and leading host Lietuvos Rytas at halftime of the qualifying rounds finale, but ultimately fell short. However Ostend advanced to the Last 32 and conquered its second straight Belgian League and Cup double to add to its rich history. The club was founded in 1970 and has been among the winningest in Belgian basketball. Ostend needed just nine years to win its first title, the Belgian Cup, and that was just the beginning. Before that, Ostend made its debut in European competitions in 1974-75 and reached the Korac Cup group stage. Ostend dominated Belgian basketball in the 1980s with seven league titles – including six straight from 1981-86 – and five Belgian Cups. The next decade started strong with another cup triumph in 1991. It won the league in 1995, the cup in 1997 and 1998 and climbed to the 1999 Korac Cup semifinals. Ostend celebrated back-to-back Belgian League titles in 2001 and 2002 and another Belgian Cup in 2001. Euroleague and ULEB Cup appearances followed, though without any major runs. More league titles in 2006 and 2007 marked another peak for the club and Ostend claimed the Belgian Cup in 2008 and 2010. In 2010-11, Ostend competed for all titles available; it reached the FIBA EuroChallenge final four at home and advanced to the Belgian League semifinals and the Belgian Cup finals. Despite hosting the EuroChallenge final four, Ostend lost against Krka Novo Mesto in the semifinals. However, the next season started another Ostend run as it returned to the Eurocup and reclaimed the Belgian League crown. With domestic dominance under its belt as well as experience in European competition, Coach Dario Gjergja’s men now target a long-awaited Euroleague ticket.
