2012 Eurocup Finals referees, delegates announced
Some of European basketball’s most experienced officials will work the games of the 2012 Eurocup Finals in Khimki, Russia on April 14 and 15. The list of referees and delegates for those games has been released by the organization and features a mix of experience and youth. Five of the eight referees selected have previously officiated at the Euroleague Final Four, the Eurocup Finals or both. The full list of referees includes Matej Boltauzer (Slovenia), Guerrino Cerebuch (Italy), Christos Christodoulou (Greece), Juan Carlos Garcia Gonzalez (Spain), Milivoje Jovcic (Serbia), Rustu Nuran (Turkey), Tasos Piloidis (Greece) and Eddie Viator (France). The game commissioners will be Alka Sinkovic of Croatia and Ales Kamnikar of Slovenia. Four of them have officiated a Eurocup title game - Jovcic in Game 1 of the two-way 2003 ULEB Cup finals, Viator in 2008, Boltauzer in 2010 and Cerebuch in 2011. Christodoulou and Boltauzer have officiated in each of the last two Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Fours in Paris and Barcelona. Jovcic (2003, 2006) and Viator (2007, 2011) have also been at the Final Four. By assigning newcomers such as Garcia Gonzalez, Nuran and Piloidis to the Eurocup Finals officiating crew, Euroleague Basketball aims both to diversify the pool of referees with experience in Europe's top basketball event and reward professional competency. BC Khimki and Spartak St. Petersburg of Russia, Valencia Basket of Spain and Lietuvos Rytas of Lithuania will compete at the 2012 Eurocup Finals.
