The head coach: Pedro Martinez
Pedro Martinez As someone who knows what it takes to win a European competition, head coach Pedro Martinez is ready to exceed expectations in his first season at Akasvayu Girona. The veteran bench boss started his career at relatively smaller Spanish teams like Alpe, Claret and Sant Josep Badalona. In 1986, Martinez joined Joventut, where he led the program's junior team to three consecutive Spanish titles. Then, in 1990, at the young age of 28, Martinez was tapped to take over the first team. He quickly stepped up to the challenge, marching Joventut months later to the 1990 Korac Cup title with a sweep of Scavolini Pesaro in the two-way final. Next, Martinez joined Manresa, where he coached four seasons. He later headed benches in Salamanca, Granada, Ourense and Tenerife before a return call to the first division came from Gran Canaria. Martinez made the most of it, taking the team to three consecutive Spanish League playoffs. Now, having led Akasvayu to the Final Eight in the club's first ULEB Cup season, Martinez keeps adding achievements to a long, successful coaching career.
