Galatasaray Cafe Crown became the first team to advance to the ULEB Cup semifinals by downing Besiktas Cola Turka 60-61 in the all-Turkish Quarterfinal opener at Palavela in Turin, Italy, on Thursday. Cuneyt Erden, who had been scoreless for more than 39 minutes and had missed 7 shots from downtown, buried the game-winning three-pointer with 7.7 seconds remaining. Robert Hite paced the winners with 22 points while Charles Gaines grabbed 9 rebounds for Galatasaray. Predrag Drobnjak had 17 points for Besiktas and Preston Shumpert added 14. READ MORE

Murat Ozyer
Few professional coaches work for their boyhood schools, but that's the case with Murat Ozyer of Galatasaray Cafe Crown. Ozyer is a graduate of Galatasaray Lycee, the Istanbul school from which his club takes its name. Ozyer was 11 years old when he discovered basketball at the school and six years later, in 1983, began coaching there. It was a very long road from the steps of Galatasaray Lycee to the silver medal he won as Turkey's assistant coach at the 2001 European Basketball Championships. READ MORE

Huseyin Besok
Even before helping Galatasaray Cafe Crown reach the Final Eight, center Huseyin Besok had secured his place as a true giant of Turkish basketball. Over 14 years at the top of the sport, Besok has dominated as a rebounder and shot-blocker, collecting six national championships and a Korac Cup on four teams in four countries.
