Joventut is ULEB Cup champ!
The ULEB Cup has a new champion, and it's none other than DKV Joventut! With a defensive masterpiece that will go down in the record books, Joventut buried Akasvayu Girona 54-79 before an animated crowd of 4,500 at Palavela Arena in Turin, Italy. Akasvayu blasted ahead 12-2 to start the game, but Joventut roared back in the behind big men Jan-Hendrick Jagla, Petar Popovic and Jerome Moiso to lead 27-34 at halftime. Joventut's defense was phenomenal in the middle quarters, limiting Akasvayu to 16 points in 20 minutes. Demond Mallet paced the winners with 26 points, while Rudy Fernandez, who didn't start due to a shoulder injury, had 13, 6 rebounds and 3 steals off the bench and was named MVP. Ivan Radenovic led Akasvayu with 20 points. With the victory, Joventut earned a place in the Euroleague next season, the 15th anniversary of its title in Europe's top club comeptition.
