In its first season ever playing international competition, PGE Turow Zgorzelec is without doubt the biggest surprise among the would-be ULEB Cup champions at the Final Eight in Turin. This small-town club from southwest Poland deserves its new status as much as any team - and maybe more. Saso Filipovski
At just 33 years old, Saso Filipovski of PGE Turow Zgorzelec can already boast accomplishments to which coaches way beyond his years continue to aspire. Already having been the youngest coach to head a Euroleague bench all decade, Filipovski has now launched unheralded Turow, a newcomer to international competition, on a meteoric rise. Filipovski paid his dues as a long-time apprentice in his native Slovenia's most storied club, Union Olimpija. READ MORE
THE STAR: THOMAS KELATI
Thomas Kelati
If PGE Turow Zgorzelec can be called the most pleasant surprise of the ULEB Cup season, a main reason for its success is another surprise, Thomas Kelati, the only elite pro player who carries the passport of the African nation of Eritrea. Kelati was born in the United States shortly after his parents escaped war in Eritrea. Following a successful university career, Kelati debuted as a pro in Europe two seasons ago, helping Dexia Mons-Hainaut take the Belgian Cup in 2006. READ MORE
