Khimki cannot hold on
Lietuvos Rytas is once again the Eurocup champion! L. Rytas became the first team to win a second Eurocup title - and sealed its Euroleague ticket for the upcoming 2009-10 regular season - by downing BC Khimki Moscow region 80-74 in the final on Sunday, rewriting competition history in the process. L. Rytas Khimki rounded a perfect weekend in which it has previously downed Benetton Basket Tamoil and Hemofarm Stada to make it to the final. In its last three appearances in the competition, Rytas won two titles and also made it to the 2007 final. Marijonas Petravicius led the winners and earned Final Eight MVP honours with 20 points on 8-for-9 two-pointers. Steponas Babrauskas added a career-high 18 points while Chuck Eidson had 14 for L. Rytas.

The Russian center's season-average of 3.2 offensive and 7.1 overall rebounds are nothing but impressive, especially because he has been pulling them down in less than 18 minutes per game for Khimki, whose frontline is packed with well-known big men.
