Sasha Djordjevic joins Eurosport2 for Eurocup Finals!
In addition to great basketball for fans on hand in Vitoria, Spain this weekend, the Eurocup Finals represent another step forward for basketball coverage by Eurosport2 for viewers around the world. The Eurocup's broadcast partner for five consecutive seasons, Eurosport2 is pulling out all the stops to make this weekend's games a great show on the screen for its vast international audience. Eurosport2 will bring all the game action from Vitoria live to a potential 49 million homes in 56 countries in as many as 16 languages. Among the enhancements to its coverage this weekend, Eurosport2 viewers will be treated to expert commentary from a European basketball legend, Sasha Djordjevic, who relishes the chance to give fans a taste of what's going on in Fernando Buesa Arena during the games.
"I am very enthusiastic to be working with the Eurosport2 people for the first time," Djordjevic said at courtside after observing practices on Friday. "We're in one of the capitals of European basketball, Vitoria, so it's a great place to start for me. We're ready to see some good basketball, and the opportunity for all four to win and go to the Euroleague is big. So it's a pleasure to be here.
"I have followed this competition since it started in 2003, and it has had great teams, great finals and, always, big names, which is going to be the same here this weekend. If you just mention Rudy Fernandez, the MVP of one of the finals, a world champion. Or Dejan Tomasevic, my friend, who was the first MVP back in 2003. We have another world champion from Spain here, Alex Mumbru. So, like I said, great names come here and come from competitions like this one. And that's what it's all about, to bring to the fans the highest level of basketball."
Djordjevic will be joined in the commentators’ booth by Robbie Nock, the regular presenter for Eurocup games on Eurosport2, who highlighted another new feature of the broadcasts this weekend, a courtside studio where they will do live interviews of the Eurocup Finals protagonists.
"It's a privilege to work alongside Sash Djordjevic, a great ambassador for basketball, bringing his expertise to the viewers,” Nock said. “Sasha and I will have in-depth reports, halftime interviews and players joining us in the studio. Eurosport has been always looking on the horizon over the last four years, and that's how we came up with the idea of an on-site studio, to help bring viewers in every corner of Europe closer to this great event."
Eurosport2 coverage of the Eurocup Finals begins with a half-hour pre-game show before Saturday's first semifinal, which starts at 18:00 local time, CET.
