Who will be lucky No. 8? The Eurocup final moves to the Fernando Buesa Arena in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, this season – the third neutral site to host the competition’s title game since its inception – where the newest Eurocup champion will be crowned on April 18! Since Pamesa Valencia became the inaugural ULEB Cup winner in 2003, five more clubs have celebrated the title and each has managed to produce multiple Euroleague stars from its roster. However the Eurocup – it was named the ULEB Cup from 2002 through 2008 – has become more than just a stepping stone to Europe’s elite competition, the Euroleague. The levels of drama and excitement seem to grow every season with relatively short regular season and Last 16 rounds that produce playoff-level atmospheres from the moment the first ball is thrown up in November until the sleek Eurocup trophy is hoisted by the winning team’s captain after the title game. Of course that passion and intensity is never on display quite as much as in the title game. From Cinderella stories and stunning upsets to unbelievable comebacks and outstanding individual performances, every Eurocup final seems to have new and special to offer, cementing this game as one of the most exciting basketball events every year.
