The Take

Three first-time matchups in Group A start on Tuesday when Telekom Baskets Bonn (1-0) plays Dominion Bilbao Basket (0-1) in its second consecutive home game at the start of the season. In five games on German soil in the past seven years, Bilbao has 1-4 record, while Bonn has won 7 of 9 home games against Spanish teams since 1997. In two Wednesday games, JSF Nanterre (1-0) hosts Union Olimpija Ljubljana (1-0) with the winner assured of holding at least a share of the top spot in the standings. Olimpija was the highest scoring team last week with 98 points, and knocked down week-high 14 triples on 63% shooting as well. But Nanterre is full of confidence after a road win at Bilbao. Newcomer Dolomiti Energa Trento (0-1) plays its historic first Eurocup home game against EWE Basket Oldenburg (0-1). Both teams will try to avoid starting the season with consecutive defeats.

Quotes Head Coaches

DONNADIEU, PASCAL
JSF Nanterre
"It will be a big challenge against Union Olimpija Ljubljana which beyond winning its first Eurocup game, it just accomplished a feat by beating Crvena Zvezda which just easily defeated Strasbourg during the first Euroleague game. We will have to be at our full potential to be able to win."
POTOCNIK, GASPER
Union Olimpija Ljubljana
"JSF Nanterre is a typical French team which plays fast and aggressive basketball with also some pick 'n roll situations. They can also play in the paint with their main center really well. These are their best weapons, but not the only ones, when we talk about their offensive game. In defense they read the opponent very well, maybe they go out of their defensive system at times, but all this, so they can steal the balls, force the opponents in turnovers and then they score easy baskets from fastbreaks. We need to play with a lot of patience and carefullness in offense, like we played in our last game. In defense we need to be at our maximum if we want to play a good game and to be succesfull at the end."

Players

MITCHELL, TASMIN
JSF Nanterre
"This Eurocup game is very important in a competitive league. As a team we must come out ready to play defense first and our offense will take care of itself. We must and we will play a 110% on both ends of the floor. I have faith in my team and I love my team!"
NIKOLIC, MITJA
Union Olimpija Ljubljana
"JSF Nanterre is a team with a lot of quality and athlecism. They play really fast basketball. We need to show the same level of energy as them, and fight for every ball in defense and rebounding. We will do everything in our power to win the game on the road. After the win in Belgrade, there is no euphoria in our lockerroom, because we know that we did not achieve our goals yet. We are working really hard at practices every day and we believe in ourselves. We go step by step, game after game."

Nanterre downs Olimpija, stays perfect in Group A

In a battle between previously undefeated teams in Group A, JSF Nanterre recorded its second win in as many games by downing Union Olimpija Ljubljana 85-72 at home on Wednesday. Tasmin Mitchell paced the winners with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Gerald Robinson added 17 points while Mam Jaiteh had 14 and 7 rebounds for Nanterre, which never trailed in this game. Sava Lesic led Olimpija with 18 points. Zack Wright added 14, 8 rebounds and 5 assists while Ronalds Zakis and Miha Lapornik each had 10 points for the guests. Mitchell and Robinson allowed Nanterre to get a 28-15 lead after 10 minutes but Olimpija got within 49-42 at halftime and even closer, 52-50, right after the break. Jaiteh and Hugo Invernizzi allowed Nanterre to restore a double-digit lead, 67-57, after 30 minutes. The hosts extended their margin to 79-60 soon after that and never looked back.

Mitchell and Mykal Riley got Nanterre going with respective baskets but Lesic soon tied it at 4-4. It didn't last long, however, as Mitchell and Terrance Campbell each hit one from downtown in an 8-0 run that gave Nanterre the lead for good, 12-4. Olimpija called timeout and Sasa Zagorac stepped up with a basket but 5 quick points by Robinson boosted the hosts' margin to 17-8. Olimpija found a new go-to guy in Lapornik but Nanterre kept finding open shots, as Robinson and Riley allowed the hosts to get a 25-15 margin. A buzzer-beating triple by Warren Racine ignited the crowd, 28-15, at the end of the first quarter. Gregor Hrovat hit free throws which Mitchell erased with a second-chance triple. A put-back layup by Zakis and a three-point play by Hrovat got Olimpija a bit closer, 31-22. Invernizzi rescued Nanterre with a three-pointer but Blaz Mahkovic and Lapornik kept the guests within 36-28. Hrovat got Olimpija as close as 36-32, making Nanterre call timeout. Jaiteh and Campbell stepped up for the hosts and Mitchell struck from downtown to give Nanterre fresh air at 47-38. Lapornik and Lesic got Olimpija closer, 49-42, at the break.

The third quarter started with a rain of three-pointers, as Wright, Mitchell and Lesic one hit one in less than a minute. Zakis soon allowed Olimpija to get back in the game, 52-50. Fernando Raposo split free throws and consecutive baskets by Jaiteh restored a 57-50 Nanterre edge, making the guests call timeout. Blaz Mesicek made free throws which Robinson erased with another basket. Zakis kept pacing Olimpija but free throws by Mitchell and a three-pointer off the dribble by Invernizzi gave the hosts a 67-57 margin after 30 minutes. Jermey Nzeulie and Jaiteh stepped up early in the fourth quarter and a three-pointer by Osby Romero broke the game open, 77-60, with 7 minutes left. Olimpija called timeout but Jaitah scored again to make it a 19-point game, 79-60. Lesic and Wright stepped up for Olimpija but the guests had ran out of time, as all Nanterre fans were celebrating a well-deserved home win.

Head Coaches

DONNADIEU, PASCAL
JSF Nanterre
"It was a pretty strong performance during the whole 40 minutes against a very dangerous team. Indeed it is a very demanding team to play because they play away from the circle and they just won against Belgrade. I am satisfied of the team because all the players have been involved in the game."
POTOCNIK, GASPER
Union Olimpija Ljubljana
"Nanterre played a great game. Throughout the game, we did not find our offensive rhythm. We came to a situation where we were closer to the opponent, but then we made a number of errors, both in offense and defense. Nanterre deservedly celebrated victory. They were better throughout the game. We need to forget the defeat and prepare for the next game. "
