The Take

Aris Thessaloniki (2-1) welcomes Steaua CSM Eximbank Bucharest (1-2) on its first trip to Greece since 1967. Aris has the Eurocup's best defense, which allows just 68 points per game, while newcomer Steaua scores just 69.3 points, the second-lowest average in the competition. In an all-Turkish showdown, Trabzonspor Medical Park (2-1) hosts Banvit Bandirma (1-2). These two sides already played this season in the Turkish League, with Banvit winning comfortably at home 88-69. Now they meet in Trabzon, where the host team is undefeated in the Eurocup. Banvit leads the competition with 16.7 offensive rebounds per game. Hoping to snap its two-game losing streak, Buducnost VOLI Podgorica (1-2) hosts Unics Kazan (2-1). The Montenegrin champion has won only one of its last 10 games against Russian teams, while Unics has won five of six Eurocup road games dating back to last season.

Quotes Head Coaches

PRIFTIS, DIMITRIS
Aris Thessaloniki
"We are facing a good team, so we have to be really concentrated for forty minutes. In Eurocup, we are coming from a big win on the road over Unics Kazan, but that result would mean nothing if we do not beat Steaua. It was a tiresome week, because we were away from Thessaloniki for seven days. But beside the normal tiredness the players must be ready for a hard game."
SAPERA, HRISTU
Steaua CSM EximBank Bucharest
"Aris has been impressive in these first games of the group by showing great chemistry and energy on each match. For sure we will have to play close to a perfect game in order to win against them in their area. Their fans play a big part of their success and we will have to stay composed throughout the whole game. Our task is to control the pace of the game and to play together at both ends of the court. This is the key of every game for us and only this can make us successful in any Eurocup game."

Players

SYMTSAK, VASSILIS
Aris Thessaloniki
"We are focused on the game against Steaua. It is important that we are counting a five-win streak , but we should not be complacent. This year is something like marathon with two games every week. So we must be concentrated. Through games and practices the team gets stronger. Sure there is tiredness but you find rhythm."
SZIJARTO, LEVENTE
Steaua CSM EximBank Bucharest
"Aris is a great team, on and outside the field. Until now, they proved they are a force to be reckoned with, and their audience is a real volcano ready to erupt. We are a team hungry for victories in Europe, willing to show the power of the colective game, which is our advantage. We had one postponed match in the national league, which gave us the chance to rest and to prepare for the match from Greece properly. We respect our opponents, but we can’t wait to play against them in front of their fanatic fans, in the great atmosphere of their gym."

Head Coaches

PRIFTIS, DIMITRIS
Aris Thessaloniki
"I want to congratulate my players for the effort and for the victory. Steaua is a good team and I knew that it would be a tough game. For Lee, this was his first game with Steaua, but he is a really good player and he was affective tonight. All the teams in our group are very strong. We look one game at a time and there should not be very high expectations until the end of the first round, but we are optimistic about the future. The fatigue is a fact, but we have to live with it. I don’t plan an acquisition in the roster."
SAPERA, HRISTU
Steaua CSM EximBank Bucharest
"We didn’t have balance in our game and we showed two faces. At first half we were not good offensively. In the second half we reacted, we played with passion and power. We could have won, but in the end we didn’t succeed. We proved that we can be competitive in the Eurocup. It was a pleasure to play in this gym with such an atmosphere. Congratulations to Aris for the victory."

Players

COHEN, JAKE
Aris Thessaloniki
"I am really proud of my team, because we reacted and we won. And we did it despite McNeal’s injury in a crucial moment. Many teams would have fallen after such a comeback from the opponent, but we showed mental toughness and we won the game. I’m happy that I made the crucial three-pointer, because I missed a similar shot in the first Eurocup game, against Trabzonspor. "
MARINOVIC, MARKO
Steaua CSM EximBank Bucharest
"There were two different halves. At first we didn’t play well at all, while in the second we showed that we can play basketball. We made some silly mistakes and we lost the game, even though we had the win in our hands. Congratulations to Aris for the victory."
