The Take

Two teams in the middle of Group B's tussle to make the Top 16 cross paths when Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (3-3) hosts ALBA Berlin (3-4). A fourth consecutive victory at home would Rytas to the next phase regardless of other scores in the group. A win by ALBA in its final game of the regular season would be good enough to advance, too. The last time these two played, in the German capital last month, it took two overtimes for ALBA to finally win 124-115. There will be an interesting battle inside where the EuroCup’s second-ranked scorer, Elmedin Kikanovic (21.3 ppg.) of ALBA, squares off against the competition's top-two rebounders, Drew Gordon (11.2 rpg) and Arturas Gudaitis (9 rpg.), both of Rytas. The hosts have their own super scorer in David Logan (19.7 ppg.), who is ranked third overall, right behind Kikanovic Gordon (14.8) and Gudaitis (14.3) are no slouches in the scoring department, either, and they are the pillars of the second-best rebounding team (39 rpg.) which has almost a 10 per game advantage over ALBA (29.3 rpg.). Behind Kikanovic, Dominique Johnson (15.2) and Dragan Milosavljevic (12.3) are ALBA's next-best scorers, and the visitors boast much better three-point accuracy that Rytas (39.9% to 33.6%) behind Niels Giffey's 47.1% and Milosavljevic's 45.5%. If free throws come into play, ALBA is better there, too, (83.8% to 74.6%), with Engin Atsur and Ismet Akpinar both perfect from the line this season. ALBA, however, has allowed more points than any other team (94.3 ppg.) and must reduce that number to enhance its chances in the Lithuanian capital.

Head Coaches

CAKI, AHMET
ALBA Berlin
"We are improving from game to game, but unfortunately this was not enough to win against Bilbao or in Khimki. So now we have to win our final game against Lietuvos Rytas in Vilnius to qualify for the Top 16. In the first round in Berlin, we needed two overtimes to beat them in a very physical game and I expect them to play an even more physical game on Wednesday in front of their own spectators. It will be difficult to beat them in their home, but if we learn from the mistakes we made against Bilbao and Khimki, especially in crunch time, and play our game not only for 30, but for 40 minutes, then we can win there, too. "

Players

AKPINAR, ISMET
ALBA Berlin
"The last thing we want is to be hoping and checking our opponents results. It’s up to us to reach the next round with a win in Vilnius and we play the game to win it even though we know how tough the game will be and how strong Vilnius is playing. If we can stop their guards and improve our defense this would mean a big step towards this key win. "
