The Take

In a pivotal clash on Tuesday, Neptunas Klaipeda (3-3) will try to distance itself from visiting Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem (2-4) and in so doing, get closer to the Last 32. No team scores more points on its home floor than Neptunas (89.7), while Jerusalem has but a single victory in the last 12 road games dating back to the 2013-14 season. In an all-Russian clash, Nizhny Novgorod (3-3) hosts last-place Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd (1-5) and D.J. Copper who is the only player in the competition who averages double-digit assists (10.2). Nizhny is dangerous from long range, as it makes 10.3 triples per game, tied for second-best in the competition. Nizhny also does not allow opponents much from behind the arc, keeping them to a mere 5.2 triples per contest, while Oktyabr does well in that department away from home, making 9 three-pointers per game and averaging 92 points. In a high-profile clash in the Greek capital, AEK Athens (4-2) and the Round 6 co-MVP Loukas Mavrokefalidis host Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul (5-1). Mavrokefalidis is Eurocup's leader in index rating (32-5), and scoring (24.8). Galatasaray is the second best scoring team (86.8), and commits least turnovers (10.7) through six games, and enters this game knowing a win combined with a Jerusalem loss would send it through to the Last 32.

Quotes Head Coaches

ADOMAITIS, DAINIUS
Neptunas Klaipeda
"We will seek revenge for the defeat in Jerusalem. Hapoel are a talented team that has a strong individual players. They like to play fast in offensive and our task will be to stop their fast attacks. This will be an important match for both teams."
FRANCO, DANNY
Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem
"We have four more games in this group stage, and we have to do our best to win as many of them as possible. The style of play in Europe is different from our domestic league, we've played enough games now in order to make the proper adjustments. If we do this tomorrow we will be able to put ourselves in a good position in what I'm sure will be a very tough game."

Players

GIRDZIUNAS, MINDAUGAS
Neptunas Klaipeda
"We play in a tough group, because any team can beat any team on any given night. Tomorrow will be a lot of pressure on the players, because it will be an important game. We will be ready for tomorrow's game and we want our fans to support us."
FISCHER, D'OR
Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem
"Any time we play as one unit, share the ball and get everybody involved, like we did in our league win Saturday, we are a tough team to beat. This is what we have to do Tuesday in order to try and get a very important and much needed road win."

Neptunas Klaipeda holds off Jerusalem

Neptunas Klaipeda took a huge step towards the Last 32 with an 87-85 victory over Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem on Tuesday evening at Svyturio Arena. The visitors stormed back from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to make a game of it late, but Josh Duncan’s tip that would have tied it was ruled to be after the final buzzer and Neptunas walked away with a victory that lifted it to 4-3 in Group F, while dropping Jerusalem to 2-5. Daniel Ewing paced Neptunas with 20 points, while Harvey Grant added 15, Travis Bader 14 and Donatas Zavackas and Martynas Mazeika scored 10 each. D’Or Fischer paced Jerusalem with 26 points, E.J. Rowland added 15 points and 6 assists, Donta Smith posted 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Matt Janning scored 12 in defeat.

Janning opened the scoring with a three-pointer before Ewing’s 4 points put the hosts on top. The lead changed hands a few times as Fischer got involved for Jerusalem and Ewing connected from downtown. Grant gave Neptunas a 13-7 lead, however Janning’s second three closed the gap to 1. Neptunas went on a 10-2 surge in which Zavackas scored half the points to take a 27-16 lead after 10 minutes. Vytautas Sarakauskas opened the second quarter with a three-pointer and when Bader hit from downtown, the difference was 19. The teams started to trade baskets with Fischer closing the gap to 42-27. Grant and Ewing kept the hosts rolling and the lead reached 19 again before Janning’s third three and Rowland’s steal and layup made it 51-37 at halftime.

Threes by Zavackas and Mazeika helped Neptunas extend the lead to 18, but a basket-plus-foul by Bar Timor and a Janning jumper drew Jerusalem within 57-44. Mazeika kept Neptunas in control, though Smith and Fischer assisted to each other as Jerusalem closed the gap. Fischer scored the last basket of the third quarter to make it 68-58. Rowland made it an 8-point game to start the fourth quarter before Grant responded with a three-point play. However Fischer and Smith got the visitors within 71-64 with seven minutes to play. Mazeika hit a three to restore a double-digit advantage, however Rowland responded in kind. Rowland and Ewing traded big shots, but time was running out for Jerusalem. Duncan’s three-pointer made it 80-74 with three minutes to go. And Smith silenced the crown when he went coast to coast for a layup and foul. Arnas Butkevicius’s basket-plus-foul and Ewing free throws seemed to seal it, but Smith’s put-back and a 5-second violation gave Jerusalem the ball again down 3 with 17 seconds left. A free throw contest developed, with Neptunas blinking first when Zavackas split shots to make it a 2-point game with 7.1 seconds remaining. Rowland missed a layup in the closing seconds and Duncan’s tip-in to tie it was ruled to be after the buzzer.

Head Coaches

ADOMAITIS, DAINIUS
Neptunas Klaipeda
"We are very happy victory because this victory is very important. We had little rest before this game because we played a game in our domestic league on Sunday. My team started the game very aggressively, but our energy declined in the second half. "
FRANCO, DANNY
Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem
"We lost a big game tonight. We were ready for this match, but Neptunas made a lot of three-point shots and led in the game. We came back in the last quarter, but we missed our last 2 shots and lost the game."
