John Bryant - Ratiopharm Ulm - EC12 (photo galatasaray.org - Tuncay SEN)Ratiopharm Ulm routed Galatasaray Medical Park 91-70 in Group L, to have an incredible four-way-tie atop the table with all the teams owning 2-2 records. Ulm also managed to gain the pivotal points differential tiebreaker in the head-to-head battle with Galatasaray after losing by 16 in Istanbul. Ulm led much of the game, though Galatasaray tied it at 39-39. The home team used a 17-2 run early in the last quarter to take a comfortable 73-55 margin en route to victory. John Bryant led the winners with 20 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and an index rating of 36. Allan Ray added 18 points, Sebastian Bezt nailed 9 of his 13 points in the crucial run in the final quarter, Philipp Schwethelm scored 12 and Lance Jeter 10. Carlos Arroyo of Galatasaray led all the scorers with 23 points on 5-for-8 shooting from downtown, while Erwin Dudley and Milan Macvan netted 10 apiece.

Per Guenther opened the scoring for the home team finishing a fast break, and after Cenk Akyol tied things from the foul line, Bryant highlighted a 10-0 run with 7 points for a 12-2 lead. A Macvan three pointer and Jamont Gordon layup cut the margin to 14-7. Akyol and Guenther exchanged triples and Ray found easy points for a 23-12 lead before Gordon completed a three-point-play and Macvan scored free throws to finish the first quarter at 25-17. Ray’s layup extended the margin to 29-17 early in the second, but a basket from long distance by Ender Arslan and 4 points in a row of Erwin Dudley allowed to Galatasaray to climb whiten 29-24. Back-to-back layups by Jeter fueled Ulm. Arroyo scored twice from beyond the arc, but Bryant hit a jumper and Jeter also a triple to make it 38-30. Arroyo again scored from mid range to finish the half at 39-33 for the hosts.

Galatasaray opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run capped by a Dudley layup that ties the score at 39-39. The home team’s answer was amazing, a 10-0 run highlighted by Schwethelm with 7 points, to lead again by double figures, 49-39. Newcomer Manuchar Markoishvili scored his first 2 points with his new team from the foul line to get within 51-44, before Macvan’s three-point play reduced the gap to 53-50 with a minute left in the quarter. Keaton Nakvil and Markoishvili scored both from long distance in the last minute to make it 56-53 for the home team after 30 minutes. Nankvil scored from downtown to open the fourth quarter. Boni Ndong hit a layup, but then 14 consecutive points of the hosts, 9 of them from Sebastian Betz, gave a comfortable 73-55 margin to Ulm. Ray’s triple and Bryant’s free throws extended again the margin to 83-59, Markoishvili from long distance tried to keep Galatasaray closes, but it was too late.

Head Coaches

LEIBENATH, THORSTEN
Ratiopharm Ulm
"We almost played a perfect game. Our shooting percentage, our rebounding and our assist-to-turnover ratio all were much better then in our loss in Istanbul. I’m very proud of my team and not just because our dream to reach the quarterfinals, is still alive."
ATAMAN, ERGIN
Galatasaray Medical Park
"We lost the game, because we lost control in the last quarter. Ulm scored 35 points and was able to display their very good uptempo game. We still have a good chance to qualify for the quarterfinals. But we have to win the next games."

Players

BETZ, SEBASTIAN
Ratiopharm Ulm
"We weren't surprised. We had a great start and just built on it. We knew that we can beat any team at home. The group is very even, now we just have to do our work."
NDONG, BONIFACE
Galatasaray Medical Park
"We played poorly the whole game. And then we couldn't keep the point differential either. Now all the teams are even in the group and we start from zero."
