Zenit claim come-from-behind win at Avtodor

Head Coaches

GREENBERG, BRAD
Avtodor Saratov
"It was a really difficult, physical and competitive game. We had moments when we led by 10 points. But then the visitors scored three-point shots or gained an offensive rebound allowing them to come back into the game. Toolson had an amazing night. He made a couple of easy open shots, but most of his successful shots were attempted through the hands of our players, including the big ones. We need to give him credit for some great baskets. Dowdell made some good drives late in the game. We did some good things. I am really proud of how my guys played tonight. I think we will get better. I am encouraged by how we played, but very disappointed to lose."
KARASEV, VASILY
Zenit St Petersburg
Today we played our first Eurocup game. We scouted Avtodor very thoroughly. We recognized we would have a very difficult game here in Saratov. We tried to play aggressively in offense and scored some easy three-point shots in the beginning of the game. When Avtodor accelerated and started to play more aggressively, our offense was not so good. In the clutch moments, we became more confident, showed good defense and won the game.

Players

BROOKS, JEFF
Avtodor Saratov
"I think we need to play better defense. Ryan Toolson is a very good player shooting the ball very well tonight. We allowed our opponents to score 90 points in our home game. This was the key of our loss. We need to improve and continue playing better defensively both in the Eurocup and the VTB League in order to win the games. Defense is the way good teams win basketball games. We should work on it before our next game against Lokomotiv Kuban."
VIKHROV, ARTEM
Zenit St Petersburg
"Everybody in our team understood the importance of the opening Eurocup game. It is great we could start the competition with a win. Therefore, our post-game impressions are very good. Avtodor is a very tough opponent. They were leading for a long period during the game. But we broke the flow of the game by playing physically in defense. Tonight Ryan Toolson showed an outstanding performance and helped us to win."
