The Take

On Tuesday, Ratiopharm Ulm (6-1) hosts Paris Levallois (2-5) in a critical game for the guests. Ulm is already into the Last 32. Paris is mathematically out if it loses and Valencia Basket (4-3) defeats visiting Union Olimpija Ljubljana (5-2). Asvel Villeurbanne Lyon (3-4) hosts Cimberio Varese (1-6), as the guests will be out with a loss or if Valencia wins. Olimpija will qualify this week if it beats in Valencia, Ulm wins and Varese wins.

Quotes Head Coaches

LEIBENATH, THORSTEN
Ratiopharm Ulm
"We still don’t care for possible opponents in the Eurocup Last 32. The only thing I tell my team is that we want to defend the first place in Group C. Since our away game at Paris you can observe an upward tendency of Levallois, which you can expect of the individual quality they have. Unless it’s at home, it will be a hard game to play: It’s Paris' last chance to reach the next round. We will try to force Paris into difficult shoots to avoid their 1 on 1 qualities. Our goal is to obtain our home winning streak."

Players

LONG, CAMERON
Ratiopharm Ulm
"It’s Eurocup – that means that all teams are pretty good, although the record of Paris isn’t that good. They have great individual talent and attack individually. We have to stop their flow on defense. Although we’re qualified for the next round, we absolutely want to win this game against Paris. I motivate myself anytime for any game. To play well I’m calm and focused before the game."
will Clyburn - Raiopharm Ulm - EC13 (photo ratiopharm Ulm - bildwerk89)Ratiopharm Ulm led from start to finish, making another step towards clinching the first place in Group C, downing Paris Levallois 56-48 on Tuesday. Ulm already qualified for the Last 32, improves to 7-1 as it now holds a 6-game winning streak, while Paris drops to 2-6 and is all but mathematically eliminated. Ulm was without Pet Guenther, Edgar Sosa and Keaton Nankivil, but it opened a double-digit lead in the first quarter. Paris came within 31-29 early in the third, however, the hosts used an 11-0 run to pull away to 48-34, and behind its defense never looked back. Will Clyburn collected 10 points plus 8 rebounds to lead in victory. Adam Hess had 7 points plus 5 rebounds, while Cameron Long contributed with 6 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Daniel Ewing netted 18 for Paris, while Landing Sane added 9 in defeat.

Ulm took control from the get go, as Jonathan Maier scored twice for 8-0 lead. A pair of quick baskets from Will Clyburn, and a three-pointer from Matt Howard made it 17-6. Paris got its offense going at the start of the second quarter, with a jumper from Daniel Ewing and a triple from Landing Sane for 19-13. But Philipp Schwethelm answered with a three-pointer for Ulm, and Till Joenke contributed with couple of basket in a 7-0 run for 27-13. The visitors cut it to 31-21 at halftime, thanks to a triple apiece from Malaye Ndoye and Ewing, before opening the third quarter with a 0-8 run. Ewin and Andrew Albiciy sunk triples to get Paris within 31-29. After Cameron Long initiated 6 straight points for the hosts, another three-pointer from Ewing kept the visitors within 37-34. But Adam Hess hit a triple to spark an 11-0 run. Hess added another jumper, while Schwethelm and Howard contributed with layups for 48-34. The hosts enter the last quarter up 50-38, and but the visitors put together 0-7 run, with Albicy sinking a triple for 52-45. But Ulm allowed only one point in the next 4 minutes, while Trent Plaisted made couple of layups to seal the deal.

Head Coaches

LEIBENATH, THORSTEN
Ratiopharm Ulm
"We won tonight’s game as a team. Nobody scored more than 10 points, but nearly everybody is on the scoring board. I’m very satisfied with our defense, and we rebounded very good. Our offensive game was okay, but we had some communications problems on the court. Nevertheless, we showed passion and heart and I’m happy we beat such an individually strong team as Paris."
BEUGNOT, GREGOR
Paris Levallois
"Without Jawad Williams and Elton Brown, we had two important players missing. But even without the two of its best point guards, Ulm played great. The result was no surprise for me. We missed too many shots and had no chance."

Players

JOENKE, TILL
Ratiopharm Ulm
"Our goal was to stay in the first place of our group. That is what we reached tonight. Now we have two games left in the first round, and we want to win both and go to the next round from the top spot."
