The Take

No road wins have been registered so far in Group J, where both games will be played on Tuesday. ALBA Berlin (1-1) hosts Aris Thessaloniki (1-1). Tradition is certainly on Aris's side as it holds 5-1 all-time record against the team from the German capital, with the lone ALBA win in the head-to-head series coming 20 years ago. ALBA is a top-five offensive rebounding team this season (12.3 per game), and is the only team in the Last 32 that has three players averaging more than 15 points per game. However, its offense has struggled with ball movement that produces only 12.9 assists per game and three-point accuracy of only 32.5%. Playing on its home floor of Mediolanum Forum for second week in a row, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan (1-1) hosts Neptunas Klaipeda (1-1). Last week Milan defeated Aris 95-54 in what was the second-largest margin of victory in Last 32 history. Now, with a defense that has allowed the fewest points in the Last 32 (68.5), Milan awaits visiting Neptunas, which has scored Last 32-low 65.5 per game so far.

Quotes Head Coaches

OBRADOVIC, SASA
ALBA Berlin
"Aris with Jerel McNeal and Dominic Waters, with their athletic front-line around Okaro White and with their experienced greek players are a very strong opponent for us - especially now, when we miss two key players with Jordan Taylor and Niels Giffey. Aris confuse their opponents with their changing defenses and we have to adjust to their different pressing defenses. Only if we manage to do so from the very first minute of the game, we will be able to beat them with their own weapon."
PRIFTIS, DIMITRIS
Aris Thessaloniki
"It's a harsh period for us. We come from several losses and bud performances, so we have to react immediately. We have to be concentrate on the court and do our job as best as we can. We play against Alba, a good and experience team, with depth in its roster and big bodies. We have to be concentrate and really careful as far as it concerns turnovers and rebounds. Also, perimeter shoot will be a key point."

Players

AKPINAR, ISMET
ALBA Berlin
"The game at home against Aris is a key game for us. We have set the goal to win every home game in front of our fans. Against Milan we made a big step forward and we want to do that again on Tuesday."
HAGINS, JAMELLE
Aris Thessaloniki
"It is a very important game. We must come out as a team, play hard, play strong. We want to show to the fans that we still are the same team. We had rough games in the row that did not go the way we wanted to go, but we will give everything to take this one. Alba is a taught team, experience, with a lot of good bigs, so have to see how we will handle the post players."

ALBA Berlin outlasts Aris behind brilliant Milosavljevic

Dragan Milosavljevic came within 1 assist of a triple double as ALBA Berlin outlasted Aris Thessaloniki 82-67 at Mercedes-Benz Arena, home of the 2016 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four, on Tuesday. Milosavljevic collected 16 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists in heling his team reach the midway point of the Last 32 with a 2-1 record in Group J. The loss dropped Aris to 1-2. Elmedin Kikanovic added 22 points and Ismet Akpinar 11 for the hosts. The game entered the fourth quarter tied at 58-58, but ALBA went on an 18-3 run to claim the victory. Dominic Waters and Jerel McNeal scored 20 points apiece for Aris in defeat.

Okaro White struck first and then assisted to McNeal as Aris scored the game’s first two baskets. ALBA responded with the next 6 points to move ahead on Milosavljevic free throws. A run of triples ensued and the score changed hands on each of the next seven baskets until Jonas Wohlfarth tied it at 15-15. The game remained close and after Jake Cohen split free throws for Aris, the first quarter ended at 21-20. ALBA took charge at the start of the second quarter with 11 straight points, while keeping Aris scoreless for four-and-a-half minutes. Mitchell Watt and Milosavljevic each scored twice in the run that put ALBA ahead 32-30. Down but not defeated, Aris stormed back as Jake Cohen scored twice to lead a 2-12 run. Vassilis Xanthopoulos’s three-pointer ended the run and the half at 38-37.

Waters edged Aris in front 40-41 early in the second half and White added 4 points for a 42-47 advantage. After Akpinar ted it from the line, Waters and White combined for the next 5 points. Threes by Milosavljevic and Alex King closed the gap and Akpinar put ALBA ahead. Waters sank free throws to make it 58-58 through three quarters. Kikanovic helped ALBA jump back infront, however Waters made it a 1-point game. Kreso Loncar nailed a triple in a 7-0 push to lead 70-62. McNeal hit from downtown to close the gap to 5, but the hosts reeled off 11 unanswered points to put the game to bed.

Head Coaches

OBRADOVIC, SASA
ALBA Berlin
"As expected, this game was fought very hard. Both teams were coming from bad games in the domestic leagues and it’s not easy in such a situation. I am very happy that we beat this strong opponent. We raised our aggressiveness in the last quarter and then even managed to get a big difference in the end. But now we got to Thessaloniki, where it is very hard to play for anybody."
PRIFTIS, DIMITRIS
Aris Thessaloniki
"It was a very tough game between two good teams. Both teams played very strong and aggressive on defense. We had quite good control of the game until the end of the third quarter. Then we collapsed both offensively and defensively and lost too many balls. ALBA used its bodies and experience, but I think we were better in this game than this final score shows."
