The Take

On Tuesday in an all-Spanish clash, Valencia Basket (1-0) hosts CAI Zaragoza (1-0) as both teams hope to build on last week's success. In the Spanish League, the two sides have split their regular season series in each of the past four seasons, but the latest clash last March in Valencia was won by CAI. Proximus Spirou Charleroi (0-1) hosts ratiopharm Ulm (1-0) and Round 1 MVP Raymar Morgan. Spirou and Ulm meet in an official game for the first time despite Spirou being in its 11th season in the competition and this Ulm its third. The hosts will attempt to avoid their fourth straight 0-2 start in the season. Two more team will be playing not to fall to 0-2 when Umana Reyer Venice (0-1) hosts SLUC Nancy (0-1). It will also be a historic occasion for Venice, which plays a European competition game on its home floor for the first time in more than 30 years.

Quotes Head Coaches

RECALCATI, CARLO
Umana Reyer Venice
"There are big expectations for our home debut in Eurocup, both for fans and for us as a team. We know that to have a long run in the Eurocup we have to make the most of the first leg since we have three home games. We need to increase our self-esteem to earn the opponents' respect, which we did not succeeded at in the first game. Nancy is not passing through a good moment in its championship but we have analyzed the Eurocup game they played against Valencia losing but competing against the best team of Group C, in my opinion. Nancy almost won using very high, athletic and powerful lines-up and that might create some problem for us."
WEISZ, ALAIN
SLUC Nancy
"It’s already an important game between two teams who lost their first game. We have to confirm our game against Valencia. We have to get our first win against a good team and start our season."

Players

ORTNER, BENJAMIN
Umana Reyer Venice
"Our first games in Eurocup and domestic league were not our true self, but at last we managed to show our real face in Turin this weekend. We have moved some steps forward but we need to keep working hard because we still have many things to do. Against Nancy it's going to be really a tough game, as it is a very athletic team. I hope the game won in Turin will help us to play better in the Eurocup starting from our defense. We need always to play together, winning last game does not mean we are already in rhythm because we have a lot of work to do left."
SENE, BENJAMIN
SLUC Nancy
"For the team it’s important to play well and continue to improve as a team. We need to win to start our season. It's gonna be tough to win in Venice, because it’s a good and smart team. It’s not easy to win on the road. We have to be focused during 40 minutes to have a chance to win. Go SLUC!"

Head Coaches

RECALCATI, CARLO
Umana Reyer Venice
"We really needed this win – and winning the way we did gives you energy and confidence. We knew we needed to play 40 minutes with great intensity. In the Eurocup, we will always need to take a step forward, physically speaking. This is very hard to do, it takes a lot of energy, but this is a step that we need to take."
WEISZ, ALAIN
SLUC Nancy
"It's not easy to play here. The third quarter unfortunately allowed them to regain confidence. This was especially a better quality game at the defensive level. Sharaud Curry brought a lot to us, and it's a great thing. I think the team is on track. We do not give up, we continues to work hard. It's a frustrating defeat. We thought we had won when we were leading by 3 points with 40 seconds remaining. We must not give up, it will come."

Players

PERIC, HRVOJE
Umana Reyer Venice
"We are really happy about the win. As you could see, it was a really tough game. We knew they are a very physical team with great rebounders. In my opinion we followed perfectly our game plan, but missed too many open shots in the first half. Then we got our offensive rhythm and increased confidence. We also were lucky at the end."
CURRY, MORRIS
SLUC Nancy
"It was a good game. Both team played well down the stretch. Venice capitalized on a couple of our mistakes. I think we did good job for the whole game, but we paid for our final mistakes. We can build from this game; we can take positive things from that. Venice is a good team, especially offensively."
