The Take

On Tuesday in an all-Spanish clash, Valencia Basket (1-0) hosts CAI Zaragoza (1-0) as both teams hope to build on last week's success. In the Spanish League, the two sides have split their regular season series in each of the past four seasons, but the latest clash last March in Valencia was won by CAI. Proximus Spirou Charleroi (0-1) hosts ratiopharm Ulm (1-0) and Round 1 MVP Raymar Morgan. Spirou and Ulm meet in an official game for the first time despite Spirou being in its 11th season in the competition and this Ulm its third. The hosts will attempt to avoid their fourth straight 0-2 start in the season. Two more team will be playing not to fall to 0-2 when Umana Reyer Venice (0-1) hosts SLUC Nancy (0-1). It will also be a historic occasion for Venice, which plays a European competition game on its home floor for the first time in more than 30 years.

Quotes Head Coaches

STAS, JACQUES
Proximus Spirou Charleroi
"ratiopharm is a very complete team, with two great creators like Guenther and Kane, well known in Belgium. The Germans are also very present on 3 position with Butler, and post 4 with Rubit and Morgan who catch many offensive rebounds. About us, I need all players at their best level. I have to manage some injuries at the moment but I'm confident for the future. We need to win home to stay ambitious."
LEIBENATH, THORSTEN
ratiopharm Ulm
"Spirou is the best team in Belgium at the moment and did a good job in Zaragoza as well. From my point of view, Billy Baron is the best scorer in Europe right now. He is the focal point of their offense and also a very good passer. To stop him without giving the other players too much space, is a huge task for us. But Charleroi is not a one-man-show. Everybody on the court works hard and moves very well without the ball. Nevertheless, we must control Baron, if we want to win there."

"The Belgian league is really strong at the top and Charleroi is a very tough team to play. We have to stay focused over the whole 40 minutes and avoid carelessness in our defense."

Proximus Spirou Charleroi
"The main part of our job tonight was to limit ratiopharm in offensive rebounds, but it wasn’t the case. We played two good quarters defensively, but we were physically exhausted at the end. It’s a pity because we had the ball in our hands. Maybe Billy made the wrong decision with a shot instead of a penetration, but that’s the game. Sure we needed one or two rotations more to stay efficient until the last seconds. "
LEIBENATH, THORSTEN
ratiopharm Ulm
"It was a very exciting game. We came here with a lot of respect, for many reasons, and our opponent proved it tonight. Finally we had a hard win after a good start. We struggled against their excellent zone defense. But we stayed positive in the last quarter. We moved the ball well and we were able to finish with an important road win. I’m sure Charleroi will win some games in the Eurocup."
