The Take

Galatasaray Istanbul (1-0) hosts AEK Athens (0-1) and big man Loukas Mavrokefalidis in first meeting between two sides in more than 50 years. Last week Mavrokefalidis scored 42 points, and amassed an amazing performance index rating 55, tied for the best ever in the competition. As he hopes to continue that momentum, Mavrokefalidis will go against a group of experienced big man, including his former Panathinaikos Athens teammate Stephane Lasme. In an all-Russian duel, Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd (1-0) hosts Nizhny Novgorod (1-0) after both teams registered wins last week. No team scored more points away from home in Round 1 than Oktyabr, behind 15 assists from D.J. Cooper. Now, Oktyabr will attempt to keep it going offensively at home against another offensive-minded side. Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem (0-1) plays at home against Neptunas Klaipeda (0-1) which visits Israel for an official game for the first time in club history. Neptunas relies heavily on its three-point shot, hitting 12 last week, while Jerusalem did not hit a single three-pointer in its opener.

Quotes Head Coaches

BOLSHAKOV, KYRYLO
Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd
"It is a very important game for us, because Nizhny is one of the favorites in our group. This is very strong team with a lot of quality players at every position. Unfortunately, we won`t have a majority of our extraordinary fans, who always give us extra push. Therefore it will be even harder to win against Nizhny."
BAGATSKIS, AINARS
Nizhny Novgorod
"Krasny Oktyabr tries to play in fast and agressive manner. Their game is based on individual skills of their players. They don't run long plays. The game will be determined by who would play better defense."

Players

ZAMANSKIY, IGOR
Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd
"They are one of the top teams in the VTB League. In their last Eurocup game they gave a beating to Hapoel and did it in very impressive style, so for us it will be one of the toughest games on group stage for sure."
ANTONOV, SEMEN
Nizhny Novgorod
"Krasny Oktyabr is a very good team with a number of high level American and good Russian players. DJ Cooper is perhaps their main weapon, he facilitates for his partners so well. We need to play our game and playing in Moscow will be our advantage since Oktyabr won't have such a big home support."

Head Coaches

BOLSHAKOV, KYRYLO
Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd
"Unfortunately, Mitchell has some health issues, and today we missed him a lot. But I want to thank our Russian players, who showed a lot of heart and gave their best. "
BAGATSKIS, AINARS
Nizhny Novgorod
"I think in the first half we were in control. We didn’t let Krasny Oktyabr run the fast break, which is a tough thing to do. In the second half we started to make mistakes and couldn’t get any points. Fortunately for us, Rudd scored in a clutch moment of the game. We’re just happy to leave Moscow with a win."
RUDD, VICTOR
Nizhny Novgorod
"I think the key to our win were defensive stops. We managed to stop them from getting quick points. In that clutch moment I was supposed to hand off the ball to Dima Khvostov, but decided to go on my own. I missed a shot like that earlier in the game, but scored on this occasion and I’m happy we won this game."
