Valencia will look to climb within touching distance of a Top 16 berth when it hosts red-hot Turk Telekom. Valencia has dropped two of its last three games, but is second in the group with a 4-2 record and is undefeated in three home games. Turk Telekom was won three in a row, including one on the road, to soar into Top 16 contention. Turk Telekom's victories have all been by margins of 4-6 points, so Coach Goren's men are tested in tough situations.
Earlier this season
Will Thomas scored 16 and Sam Van Rossom delivered a club-record 12 assists to lead Valencia to a 67-72 victory when the teams met last month. Valencia trailed by 7 at halftime, but started the third quarter on a 0-12 run and never looked back. Sylven Landesberg paced Turk Telekom with 16 points in defeat.
This game will see a pair of small forwards with rich pasts in the EuroLeague match up with Fernando San Emeterio for Valencia and Sylven Landesberg for Turk Telekom. A former All-EuroLeague selection, San Emeterio has a full bag of trick he can use against Landesberg, who won the EuroLeague with Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2014 and was second in the Spanish league in scoring last season.
Keys to victory: Valencia
In Valencia's two losses, once it struggled on defense and surrendered 104 points and the second time it struggled on offense and scored only 69. One thing that was common in the losses was a higher rate of turnovers (12.5) compared to its wins (10). Those extra few lost possessions often lead to extra points and can make the difference in close games.
Keys to victory: Turk Telekom
Turk Telekom is averaging almost 10 points more per game during its three-game winning streak (79.7 ppg.) than it had in its first three games of the season (10 ppg.). One of the players most responsible for the difference has been guard T.J. Campbell, who raised his numbers from 10.7 points and 2.3 three-pointers made per game to 15.3 points on 4 three-pointers per game. When Campbell is a scoring threat, he opens things up for all of his teammates and Turk Telekom will need some of that in Valencia.
Guillem Vives of Valencia will miss this game due to injury.
