THE TAKE

Ukraninan champ BC Donetsk hosts Galatasaray Medical Park Istanbul this week, with the visiting side already qualified for the Eurocup Last 16. The home team still has a chance of advancing, but needs other results to go its way. A win against Galatasaray is essential, but Donetsk also requires Lokomotiv Kuban to lose its road game against Trefl Sopot. In such a scenario, Galatasaray will qualify first in Group F and Donestk second. The Turkish side needs to win to ensure first place, whatever happens, and it will finish second in the event of a defeat if Lokonotiv Kuban wins. Donetsk comes off a pivotal win in Krasnodar against Lokomotiv and is in strong form, ready to play at its best in the final game. Doron Perkins could be back in action, while under the boards Donetsk big men D'or Fischer and Ivan Radenovic will fight against Milan Macvan and Boni Ndong for rebounds. Stopping versatile Galatasaray scorer David Hawkins and powerful Jamont Gordon will be a crucial task for the home team’s defense.

Quotes Head Coaches

BERROCAL, JOSEP MARIA
BC Donetsk
"We have to focus on our game and don't think about things that we can't control. We cannot influence the game in Sopot that is why the most important is how we fight in our match. Galatasaray is very good on pick-n-rolls, so our aim is to play tough in one on one defense and force the opponent to make hard shots."
ATAMAN, ERGIN
Galatasaray Medical Park
"We have already qualified to the next stage of Eurocup, that is why it will be easier to play against Donetsk as we don’t have the stress that the team will not go further. Anyway we came to Ukraine to show interesting basketball and of course to win the game."

Players

LYPOVYY, OLEKSANDR
BC Donetsk
"Our first goal is to beat Galatasaray and only then we will think about the result in Poland. The Turkish team is a very strong opponent, but we need a good win over this strong team to feel the confidence in future games."
GORDON, JAMONT
Galatasaray Medical Park
"We want to finish the Eurocup group stage on the first position. In the first game against Donetsk we played without good energy but managed to win. Hope that in the second game we will play as a team and show our best game."
BC Donetsk ended its Eurocup campaign on a winning note after edging Galatasaray Medical Park 88-81 in overtime on Wednesday. Despite the victory, which lifted Donetsk’s record to 3-3, the Ukrainian champions did not progress into Last 16 due to a Lokomotiv Kuban winning in the other Group E game. The loss dropped already qualified Galatasaray to 4-2 and into second place behind Lokomotiv. The visitors led for the majority of the regulation and entered into the fourth quarter with a 43-51 advantage, but Donetsk rallied and took the game to overtime, 70-70, after 40 minutes. In the extra session, D’Or Fischer put the hosts ahead and a Ramel Curry triple made it 83-76 and sealed the deal. Fischer paced the winners with 19 points and 9 rebounds, Curry added 18 points and 5 assists, Darius Songaila netted 16, Ivan Radenovic 12 and Doron Perkins tallied 10 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Erwin Dudley led Galatasaray with 23 points, Cenk Akyol scored 20, David Hawkins 15 and Ender Arslan 10.

Head Coaches

BERROCAL, JOSEP MARIA
BC Donetsk
"It's always good to win. But we have to work more on our game and make it better. Today we played bad in second quarter. We need to play on the same level during the entire game. Our goal for today was just to win this game. Even I didn't know how Trefl and Lokomotiv played during our game."
ATAMAN, ERGIN
Galatasaray Medical Park
"We already qualified to the next round last week, but we came here to win. We started the game good and soon found our rhythm, but lost control of the game in last five minutes. Donetsk played aggressive defense… In the overtime we did not have enough energy to win."

Players

MALYSH, ANDRIY
BC Donetsk
"It was our last chance to get to the next round. We did everything that we could. Trefl lost in Poland, but we didn't know about that during the game."
KORKMAZ, CAN
Galatasaray Medical Park
"It was important game for us because we wanted to qualify from first place. But we didn't win. Anyway we are ready for the next round."
