The Take

On Tuesday, JSF Nanterre (3-2) hosts Dominion Bilbao Basket (3-2) in the French capital, with the winner assured of at least a share of first place in the Group A standings. Nanterre won their first game in Bilbao 73-76, however, Bilbao has won all three of its road games since then and through five games has knocked down a Eurocup-leading 58 three-point shots. In an all-German showdown, EWE Baskets Oldenburg (2-3) hosts Telekom Baskets Bonn (2-3). After starting its Eurocup campaign with three double-digit defeats, Oldenburg has won two straight games by a combined margin of 4 points in the last two weeks. The hosts go into the game allowing 84.8 points per game, the fourth-most in the competition, while Bonn has allowed even more, 88.2 points per game, more than all but one other Eurocup team. Dolomiti Energia Trento (3-2) plays at home against Union Olimpija Ljubljana (2-3). In a shootout to start the season, Olimpija celebrated a 98-97 win, but it could be a different game this time around, because Trento has been really solid defensively at home, holding opponents to just 68 points, the lowest average for teams that have already played three home games.

Quotes Head Coaches

BUSCAGLIA, MAURIZIO
Dolomiti Energia Trento
"Some games have to be played with the awareness that they have to be won. In these games, it is important to look at the growth of the players as a team and at their ability to develop the game, but at the end of the day the result is what really matters. Wednesday's game is one of these ones."
POTOCNIK, GASPER
Union Olimpija Ljubljana
"Every game is very important for us. In the ABA League we have a streak of losses, but like I was saying all the time, even before the start of the season, such moments in the season will happen for us. We need to stay together as a team and keep working. This is the only way to get better. We need to play with less turnovers and then we can be in the game for victories. We are going to Italy relaxed and without pressure. Trento is a great team, which is playing very good also in Italian League and in Eurocup. They are very athletic team, which everyone could witness already in Stozice Arena at our first game. They play with a lot of transition offense and are very dominant in rebounding. We need to be smart on the court, keep our composure, starting with our offense that needs to be very patient and with a lot less turnovers. In defense, we need to stop their transition offense with quick return to defense and closing the paint. It will be very important that we do a good job also in rebounding part of the game."

Players

LOCKETT, TRENT
Dolomiti Energia Trento
"The plan is to win the next game against Union Olimpija Ljubljana. We still have a bad taste in our mouth because of the game we lost there in Slovenia. This game is very important for us and winning is what we need to proceed in Eurocup."
WRIGHT, ZACH
Union Olimpija Ljubljana
"We are on a bad streak now. We need to bring the energy and try to win this game on the road. We need a win to keep our chances alive for the next round. We had couple of days to prepare and we are very motivated. If we bring the energy, we can beat anyone. Trento is a very athletic and fast team. They score a lot, and they don't run many plays, but they kind of play NBA type of basketball. We need to control the rythem and try to pervent them their transition offense and offensive rebounding. We had a lot of problems with this already in our first game, that we won."
Filippo Baldi Rossi - Dolomiti Energia Trento - EC15

Trento rallies from 14 down, beats Olimpija

Newcomer Dolomiti Energia Trento rallied from a double-digit deficit to beat the visiting Union Olimpija Ljubljana 90-77 on Wednesday night. Trento claimed back a share of the first place in Group A, improving to 4-2 record, while Olimpija dropped to 2-4. The visitors led by as many as 14 points in the second quarter, and led 40-51 in the third, before Trento used a 21-7 third-quarter spurt to turn a double-digit deficit into a 61-58 lead. The hosts never looked back after that, quickly extending advantage into double-digits, and cruising the rest of the way. Trent Lockett scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half, and Davide Pascolo scored all of his 13 in the last two quarters to lead the hosts. Filippo Baldi Rossi netted 14, Jamarr Sanders had 12, while Andres Forray contributed with 11 points. Dominique Sutton collected 9 points and 10 rebounds in victory. Ronalds Zakis had 20 points plus 7 rebounds for the visitors, Sava Lesic scored 16, Zach Wright had 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while Miha Lapornik netted 11 in defeat.

Offenses struggled to find their rhythm in the first 5 minutes, before Zakis had a put-back to get Olimpija going, and Lesic added to the tally and 7-10. After Sanders and Sutton helped get things even at 12-12, Zach Wright had consecutive baskets, and Vlatko Cancar had a put-back during a 0-9 run. It was 13-21 after 10 minutes, but a pair of baskets from Zakis at the start of the second made it 13-25. Baldi Rossi hit a three-pointer for the hosts, but a triple from Lesic pushed the lead back into double figures, 20-30, and more baskets from Zach Wright and Lesic extended it to 22-36. Lockett had a basket-plus-foul for the hosts, and Julian Wright converted a fast break. Olimpija went to the line often before the break, hitting 6 of 6. Sanders hit a triple for Trento, before Zakis and Sutton traded baskets in the final minute, making it 34-44 at halftime.

Lockett had couple baskets for the hosts, but Miha Lapornik buried a three for Olimpija, 38-47 after 2 minutes in the third. Lesic pushed the margin back into double figures, but Pascolo had a fastbreak basket-plus-foul and Lockett scored six more points to cut get Trento within 51-55. After Lapornik hit another triple, baskets from Pascolo and Sanders completed the rally, giving Trento 61-59 after 30 minutes. Baldi Rossi had a three-pointer and Pascolo a put-back for Trento, before a fastbreak basket from Sutton and a triple from Sanders opened 71-61 with 7 minutes to go. Margin continued to grow as Forray hit a three and Lockett had a put-back, 79-64. Lesic and Zakis kept Olimpija alive, but Julian Wright had a three-point play for Trento. Lapornik and Lockett traded threes to make it 88-73 with 2 minutes left to play, as Trento was well on its way to victory.

Head Coaches

BUSCAGLIA, MAURIZIO
Dolomiti Energia Trento
"Our reaction was positive; we managed to understand promptly what was needed to get back on track. In the first half, they defended welland limited our offensive rebounds and our attack was really poor. Then we reacted by getting more rebounds, defending more cleverly and running faster than before. Consequently, we shot with a higher efficiency and delivered more assists."
POTOCNIK, GASPER
Union Olimpija Ljubljana
“First of all, congratulations to Dolomiti Energia Trentino on the victory. We played well in the first half; we managed to limit them well in the paint and the amount of their rebounds. In the second half, we were not the same team on the court. We let them play the way they wanted. We have to forget this game fast, we have a home game on Saturday. We showed that we can play well in the first half, but we have to keep concentration for 40 minutes."
