Quarterfinals Game 2 MVP: Matt Nielsen, Power Electronics Valencia
If there is a player that has dominated a 2009-10 Eurocup Quarterfinals series, that has to be Matt Nielsen of Power Electronics Valencia. Not only Valencia was the only team able to sweep both games, but Nielsen is the Eurocup weekly MVP for the second consecutive week. The award goes to the player for a winning team who has the best performance index rating. Although Pooh Jeter of Hapoel tied for the same index rating, 25, Nielsen is the MVP because Valencia was victorious this week and Hapoel wasn't. Nielsen shined against Aris BSA 2003 with 13 points on 7-of-7 free throws. He added 6 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, a block and 7 fouls drawn for a 25 index rating. Jeter had 19 points in his team's road loss against Alba Berlin. He added 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 fouls drawn. Derrick Byars of Alba led his team to a series-clinching win against Hapoel with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 5 fouls drawn, good for a 21 index rating. Thomas Kelati of Power Electronics, with an index rating of 20, and two players who tied with 19s, Adam Chubb of Alba and Aaron Miles of Aris, completed the top individual performances this week.
Individual highs: Chris Owens of Panellinios, 11 rebounds
Jeter was the top scorer in Game 2 with 19 points against Alba. Jaycee Carroll of Gran Canaria 2014 finished as Quarterfinals top scorer at 19.5 points per game. Chris Owens of Panellinios pulled down 11 rebounds as his team eliminated Gran Canaria on the road. Axel Hervelle of Bizkaia Bilbao Basket led all Quarterfinals rebounders at 9 boards per night. Immanuel McElroy of Alba dished 6 assists to lead the weekly standings and finished atop the Quarterfinals board at 4 per night. As many as 16 players collected 2 steals this week to tie for first place. Arthur Lee of CEZ Nymburk and Chris Warren of Bilbao tied atop the Quarterfinals standings at 2.5 steals on average. Owens, Sitapha Savane of Gran Canaria and Jerome Moiso of Bilbao each had 2 blocks in the final Quarterfinals game. Moiso led this phase in blocks at 2 per game. Owens - 13 points, 11 rebounds - was the only player to register a double-double this week.
