Panellinios, coach Zouros part ways
Ilias Zouros, Coach of the year, Panellinios Opap BC - Finals 2010 Vitoria-GasteizPanellinios announced that former head coach Ilias Zouros will not coach the team next season. Zouros joined Panellinios in December 2007 and led the team to its biggest success in decades. Last season, Zouros led Panellinios to the Greek League semifinals and the Eurocup finals in Vitoria, Spain. He was chosen as the 2009-10 Eurocup Coach of the Year. Zouros, 44, played for the Panionios junior sides, but started his coaching career at the age of 20 with the cadet and the junior teams at that club, before moving to Peristeri, where he served as an assistant coach. He continued as an assistant coach at Sporting, Maroussi, Olympiacos and the Greek national team. In the summer of 2000, he was named head coach of Olympiacos, replacing the legendary Giannis Ioannidis, and led that team to the Euroleague quarterfinals. He remained at Olympiacos until February 2002, and then moved to Sagesse in Lebanon, guiding the club to the Asian Club Championship. Afterwards, he returned to Greece with Near East. He coached Aris Thessaloniki in 2005-06, including in the ULEB Cup. He left Aris after three months and took over on the French club Racing Paris Levallois bench, where he remained until he signed for Panellinios, that has wished him success in the next steps of his career.
