UNICS: Homicius hired as new coach
Valdemaras HomiciusUnics agreed to terms of a contract with Valdemaras Homicius, who will coach the team next season. Homicius, an Olympic champion - Soviet Union, 1988 - and a European Cup finalist - Zalgiris, 1986 - as two of many highlights in his legendary playing career, coached Unics' under-23 team to win the Russian championship this season. Homicius arrived in Kazan in 2005, becoming the team's assistant coach for almost three years. He had previously coached Ural Great Perm and Dynamo Moscow in Russia, as well as Marijampole and Mazeikiai in his native Lithuania. "We managed to win the Russian Cup this season, an achievement that we hope to repeat. We also need to reach higher in the Eurocup, as well as in the Russian League," Homicius said. "I met the team's president and said that he has followed my work closely. He has confidence in me and hopes for me to have success."
