GRAN CANARIA: brings back coach Martinez
Kalise Gran Canaria has announced an agreement with head coach Pedro Martinez, who will coach the team until the end of the 2010-11 season. Martinez, age 47, already coached Gran Canaria for three consecutive seasons from 2002 to 2005. He led Gran Canaria to three consecutive playoffs appearances before joining Tau Ceramica, to which he led to win the 2005 Spanish Supercup. Martinez arrives from Cajasol, to which he helped to stay in the Spanish League with an incredible rally in the final 15 games. He has also coached Akasvayu Girona, MMT Estudiantes, Tenerife, Ourense, Menorca, Granada, Salamanca, Manresa and Joventut throughout his coaching career. Martinez helped Joventut to win the 1990 Korac Cup titles, becoming one of the youngest coaches - age 28 - to lift an European club competitions trophy. He also led Akasvayu to reach the 2008 ULEB Cup title game.
