SIAULIAI keeps coach Sireika
A well-respected, veteran coach is set to return to the Eurocup, as Siauliai has announced that Antanas Sireika extended his contract for one more season. Sireika, age 54, joined Siauliai last season and led the team to once again get third place in the Lithuanian League. Sireika had already coached Siauliai from 1995 to 2002, allowing the club to cement its status as the third team in the country, right behind European powerhouses Zalgiris and Lietuvos Rytas, which he coached in the past. He has also worked for Unics Kazan, as Sireika started the 2006-07 as the team's head coach before becoming president advisor. He has helped Unics to reach both the 2007 Russian League and Russian Cup finals, as well as playing the ULEB Cup semifinals against eventual champion Real Madrid that season. Sireika won back-to-back Lithuanian League titles with Zalgiris in 2004 and 2005, also lifted the Baltic League trophy in 2005, as well as leading Lithuania to get the gold medal at EuroBasket 2003. He also won an Olympic bronze medal with Lithuania in Sydney 2000 as his national team's assistant coach.
