GRAN CANARIA, Savane stay together
Sitapha Savane - Gran CanariaGran Canaria and one of the pillars of the team in recent years, big man Sitapha Savane, will remain together for two more years after agreeing to an extension on Wednesday. Savane (201, 30) has already spent five seasons with the club. The native of Senegal produced 5.5 points and 4.9 rebounds in six Eurocup games last season. He further averaged 9.1 points, 4.7 rebounds in the Spanish League and increased those numbers to 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and a 17.7 index in the Spanish League playoffs. Savane is third leading scorer all-time for Gran Canaria in the Spanish League and enters the season ranked eighth on the Eurocup’s career shot blocking list with 44 reections. Savane began his career playing college basketball at the United States Naval Academy and later played in Spain for Menorca Basquet and Tenerife Baloncesto before joining Gran Canaria in 2004. His signing comes one day after fellow big man James Augustine was re-signed.

"Sitapha Savane for this club means much more than pure athletic performance," sports director Himar Ojeda said. "So we wanted him to continue being part of our program."
