GRAN CANARIA keeps Marcus Norris
Kalise Gran Canaria and Marcus Norris agreed on a one-year contract extension that will keep the point guard at the club for a fifth consecutive season. The club can exercise an option to keep Norris for the 2010-11 season too. Norris (185, 35) has been among Gran Canaria's most consistent players and helped the club reach the Spanish League playoffs in 2006, 2007 and 2009. He averaged 8.7 points and 3.7 assists, while starting all six of the club's Eurocup games. He is also just 2 assists shy of becoming only the 30th player to record 100 career Eurocup assists. Norris also averaged 7.3 points and 2.9 assists in the Spanish League regular season. He originally signed for Gran Canaria from Ukrainian side BC Kyiv. Norris has also played for Pyrbasket in Finland, Slavonski Brod in Croatia, Portugal Telecom Lisboa in Portugal and Bnei Hasharon in Israel. Among his career highlights are winning a pair of Portuguese League championship and Portuguese Cups and the Ukrainian Cup. He led the Finnish League in scoring in 1997 with 32.3 point per game.
"Marcus Norris has been an important piece in our team in the last few years," Gran Canaria sports director Himar Ojeda said. "We are happy to carry on counting on him."
