LAURETANA BIELLA adds Sven Schultze
Sven SchultzeLauretana Biella has bolstered its frontline by signing Sven Schultze, a veteran big man last with Monferrato of the second league in Italy. Schultze (208, 31) has a long and rich career in Europe, mostly in Italy and his native Germany. He began his career at boyhood club Bamberg before moving to Alba Berlin, with whom he won three German League titles, two German cups and made his Euroleague debut in four seasons. Schultze also played for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany before signing in Italy for Armani Jeans Milano in 2005, with whom he also appeared in the Euroleague. His next stop was Snaidero Udine. Last season Schultze moved to Greece to suit up for Olympia Larissa, but came back to Italy to help Monferrato in the playoffs. He has also been a regular member of the German national team, with whom he won a silver medal at EuroBasket 2005 and also appeared in the Olympics and world championships. This past summer he averaged 6.2 point and 3.5 rebounds at EuroBasket 2009 in Poland.

"Sven is a player who will be very helpful because he has the characteristics that we were looking for," Biella general manager Alessandro Giuliani said. "He is a team player, knows the league and can shoot three-pointers to open the court. He’s a tough player, who brings physicality and experience that have always characterized his seasons in Italy."
