BILBAO BASKET signs Axel Hervelle
A former competition champion switched Spanish teams, as Bizkaia Bilbao Basket reached an agreement with power forward Axel Hervelle to sign a contract for the remainder of the season, the club confirmed Monday. Hervelle (205, 26) averaged 1.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 7 Spanish League games with Real Madrid this season and had not been registered to play the 2009-10 Euroleague. Last season, Hervelle averaged 6.4 points and 5.1 rebounds in 19 Euroleague games with Madrid, helping the team to reach the Quarterfinal Playoffs. In his five seasons with Madrid, Hervelle helped the club to win two Spanish League titles in 2005 and 2007, the year in which the Whites also lifted the ULEB Cup trophy. Hervelle has also played for Verviers Pepinster in Belgium, where he is a regular member of his national team. Hervelle already chose number 17, has his official presentation in Bilbao and is expected to play in his team's Eurocup game against Spirou Basket tomorrow.
