CANTU keeps Ortner at center
Ben Ortner - Pallacanestro CantuNGC – Bennet Cantu has reached an agreement with center Ben Ortner to extend his contract until the end of the 2011-12 season, the club announced Friday. Ortner (206, 27) comes off a career-best season, in which he averaged 10.4 points and 5 rebounds in 30 Italian League games with Cantu last season, helping his team reach the semifinals. Ortner has also played for Snaidero Udine and Reggio Emilia since finishing his four-year college basketball career at Metropolitan State College of Denver (NCAA II). He helped Reggio Emilia reach the ULEB Cup quarterfinals in 2006. Ortner is also a member of the Austrian national team.

"With Ben back in the team and Denis Marconato's signing earlier on, we have put together a well-balanced, experienced center duo," Cantu sports director Bruno Arrigoni said. "I am sure they will do well in the Italian League and also in the Eurocup."
