EWE BASKETS brings big Baynes in
EWE Baskets Oldenburg signed Aron Baynes to a two-year contract on Thursday, bringing the Australian center over from Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius. Baynes (208, 23) made his professional basketball debut last season, averaging 5.5 points, 3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks over 13 minutes in 10 Euroleague games – eight of them as a starter. He improved those numbers to 9.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in the Lithuanian League and 10.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in the Baltic League. Baynes finished the season with titles from the Lithuanian League and Lithuanian Cup. He arrived in Lithuania after four years of college basketball at Washington State University in the United States. Prior to his university career, Baynes was trained at the Australian Institute of Sport. He had led the Cairns Marlins, in his hometown, to the Australian semipro championship in 2004.
