CANTU re-signs captain Mazzarino
Nicolas Mazzarino - NGC-Bennet Cantu (photo: www.pallacanestrocantu.com)NGC-Bennet Cantu will go into its first Eurocup season led again by veteran captain Nicolas Mazzarino, who signed a two-year contract extension on Wednesday, the club announced. From his guard position, Mazzarino (181, 34) helped lead Cantu to the Italian League semifinals last season, where it was stopped only by four-time defending champion Montepaschi Siena. Mazzarino finished the season averaging 13.8 points per game on impressive shooting accuracy, 52.2% on two-pointers and 40.7% from three-point range. Mazzarino will enter his sixth season with the club when Cantu plays in the Eurocup regular season starting in November. He had previously played for Reggio Calabria in Italy as well as three South American clubs, Boca Juniors of Argentina, Hebraica Macabi and Atletico Welcome in his native Uruguay. "We are very satisfied to have Nicolas back, club president Alessandro Corrado said. "He is a real symbol for our club and is especially loved and appreciated by our supporters."
