CEZ NYMBURK nabs Stimac at center
CEZ Basketball Nymburk fortified its frontline over the weekend with the signing of center Vladimir Stimac for the remainder of the season. Stimac (210, 23) helps fill the gap left by the injury to Petr Benda, who will miss at least a month. Stimac arrives from Latvian side Ventspils and has great Eurocup experience from spending the last two seasons with Crvena Zvezda. He averaged 7.9 points and 7.6 rebounds in eight Baltic League contests for Ventspils this season. Stimac grew up at Serbian clubs Postar and Beovuk 72 and featured on the Serbia and Montenegro national team that won the gold medal at the 2005 Under-18 European championships. He then moved to Zalgiris, where he continued to improve, but needed more minutes and went on loan to Latvia’s SK Valmiera, where he emerged as a true low-post threat. In the summer of 2008, Stimac joined Crvena Zvezda on a two-year deal and became one of the team's best players. Stimac was already in uniform for the team’s Adriatic League game on Saturday night and should be available for Tuesday Eurocup game at VEF Riga.
