CIBONA brings home veteran guard Kus
Cibona Zagreb has a new floor general after signing veteran point guard Davor Kus, who has already played seven seasons for the club. Kus (1.90 meters, 33 years old) arrives from Spanish side Fuenlabrada, for whom he averaged 8.2 points and 2 assists in the Spanish League last season. He grew up with Rijeka and first signed for Cibona in 2000. Kus then played seven of the next nine seasons with the team. In between he played a season each for AEK in Athens and Unicaja in Spain. All told, Kus took part in 148 Euroleague games over nine seasons with those teams. Kus made his Eurocup debut with Benetton Treviso two seasons ago and averaged 10.2 points and 3.1 assists in 12 appearances. Among his career highlights, Kus boasts six Croatian League championships and three Croatian Cups. He also shares the record for best free-throw shooting performance in a Euroleague game: A 17 for 17 outing for Cibona in an overtime loss at Union Olimpija in December 2006. Kus also played for the Croatian national team for many summers, including at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
"The first contact was made in the spring and summer when I was talking with sports director Niksa Prkacin. Then we agreed in principle that, unless I find a commitment that would satisfy me abroad, my choice is Cibona. There I spent a very nice year, and I recognized, like others, a positive atmosphere around the club which was another reason to come back," Kus said. "All of my ambitions are for Cibona. We signed a contract until the end of the season and I think every player should be honored to have the ability to help a club like Cibona be as strong as before."
