VALENCIA BASKET extends Lishchuk
One of the best defensive centers in Europe is staying put in a Eurocup powerhouse, as Valencia Basket announced a new deal with big man Serhiy Lishchuk, who extended his contract for two more years, until the end of the 2013-14 season. Lishchuk (210, 29) arrived in Valencia in September 2009 and has been an essential player to Valencia's success in recent years. Lishchuk averaged 8.7 points on 52.9% three-pointers, 3.2 rebounds and a league-best 1.47 blocks in 15 Eurocup games in 2009-10, helping Valencia to lift the trophy and earn the right to play in the 2010-11 Euroleague. Lishchuk averaged 6.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 21 Euroleague games last season, helping Valencia to be one win away from making it to the Final Four. He is averaging 9.8 points, 8 rebounds and a block in 4 Eurocup games so far. Lishchuk had previously played for Azovmash, Khimik and Pulsar in his native Ukraine. He helped Azovmash to win four consecutive Ukrainian League titles from 2006 to 2009, as well as reaching the FIBA EuroCup title game in 2007. Lishchuk is also a regular member of the Ukrainian national team.
