CRVENA ZVEZDA tabs Simonovic
Crvena Zvezda Belgrade bolstered its frontcourt for its Eurocup return next season by signing forward Marko Simonovic to a two-year deal on Wednesday. Simonovic (2.02 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Alba Berlin, where he averaged 9.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 12 Eurocup games last season. He started his career with Radnicki and also played for several Serbian clubs such as Smederevo, Lavovi and Ergonom before joining Belgian powerhouse Oostende before the start of the 2006-07 season. He soon moved to Hemofarm, to which he led to win the 2006-07 Serbian League regular season before losing against Zvezda in the semifinals. He also helped Zvezda to reach the Adriatic League and the Serbian League finals in 2008. Simonovic also played for Buducnost for three seasons, in which he helped the team to win three Montenegrin League and Montenegrin Cup titles in 2009, 2010 and 2011. He also helped the Serbian national team to win the World University Games in 2009.
