CRVENA ZVEZDA brings home Rakocevic
Igor Rakocevic goes home to Crvena ZvezdaThree-time Euroleague scoring champion Igor Rakocevic is returning to his original club, Crvena Zvezda Diva Belgrade, to play in the 2012-13 Eurocup, the club announced Thursday. Rakocevic (193, 34) arrives from Montepaschi Siena, where he averaged 9.4 points in 19 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season while winning both the Italian League and Italian Cup. Rakocevic grew up in Crvena Zvezda, where he played between 1995 and 2000. Later, after spending two seasons with Buducnost Podgorica between 2000 and 2002 and Minnesota of the NBA the following season, he returned to Crvena Zvezda and debuted in the Eurocup, averaging 19.3 points over 10 games. He stayed in the Eurocup the next season, putting up 18.6 points on average for Valencia of Spain. Rakocevic returned to the Euroleague with Real Madrid in 2005-06, won two Top Scorer trophies in the next three seasons with Tau Ceramica of Spain and another two years ago with Efes Pilsen of Turkey. He was named to the All-Euroleague first team in 2008-09 and to the second team in 2006-07. Rakocevic leaves the Euroleague ranking sixth all-time in total points, with 2,328. With the Yugoslav national team, Rakocevic was a world champion in 2002 and a European champion the previous season.
