SPIROU CHARLEROI, Walsh reunite
August 23, 2012
Belgian squad Belgacom Spirou Basket Charleroi announced that swingman Matt Walsh will return to the club, which he previously helped win back-to-back Belgian League titles. Walsh (1.97 meters, 30 years old) first joined Charleroi in February 2008 and remained until the end of the following season. He became a fan favorite due to his all-around offensive skills that result in creative basket and amazing assists. Walsh arrives from BC Azovmash of Ukraine, where last season he averaged 16.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 21 Ukrainian League games. He started the season in Spain with UCAM Murcia and later moving to Caja Laboral before heading to Ukraine. Walsh has had great success at the European level in recent seasons. He ranked third in the Euroleague regular season in scoring during the 2009-10 season when he averaged 17.3 points over nine games with Union Olimpija Ljubljana. The following season he ranked fourth in the Eurocup regular season with 6 assists per game for Asvel Basket. He has also played for Olimpia GE Larissa and Aris BSA 2003 in Greece, Miami in the NBA, Arkansas in the NBA D-League, Manresa, Murcia and Caja Laboal in Spain, Olimpija in Slovenia, Asvel in France and Azovmash in Ukraine.
Spirou also announced that swingman Glen Dandridge has joined the club on a one-month trial. Dandridge (1.98 meters, 27 years old) has played professionally in Canada, Argentina and Morocco in recent seasons after a college basketball career at the University of Missouri and Lambuth University.
