Galatasaray Medical Park
Fresh off a great Turkish Airlines Euroleague season, Galatasaray Medical Park has reloaded its roster to be one of the teams to beat in the 2012-13 Eurocup. Galatasaray inked head coach Ergin Ataman and got stronger in every position, inking players like All-Euroleague guard Henry Domercant, former Eurocup Rising Star Milan Macvan, Jamont Gordon, David Hawkins, Erwin Dudley or Boni Ndong. Furkan Aldemir, Jaka Lakovic, Ender Arslan and Cenk Akyol turn Galatasaray into a dangerous force.
Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar
Few teams have reloaded its roster the way Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar did. Loko brought in Eurocup-winning head coach Evgeny Pashutin and playmakers Nick Calathes and Mantas Kalnietis to be his floor generals. Sharp shooter Jimmy Baron, forward Simas Jasaitis and centers Aleksey Savrasenko and Aleks Maric turn Loko into a dominante force. The fact that it kept Ali Traore, Sergey Bykov and Maxim Sheleketo says it all - Loko is set to fight for the Eurocup title.
BC Donetsk is back to the Eurocup after reaching the quarterfinals last season. Center D'or Fischer and playmaker Doron Perkins are set to lead the team this season, along with big man Ivan Radenovic, rebounding machine Kaloyan Ivanov and versatile talents Maksym Pustozvonov and Oleksandr Lypovyy. Coach Vlada Jovanovic hopes to use his Turkish Airlines Euroleague experience to make Donetsk compete game by game, possesion by possesion, all season long.
Trefl Sopot wants to take several steps forward and put together an interesting roster ready to achieve that goal. Head coach Zan Tabak was a three-time Euroleague winner as a player and will lead a team whose main players are Maurice Acker, Frank Turner and Filip Dylewicz. Veteran big man Sime Spralja, guard Przemyslaw Zamojski and three-point threat Adam Waczynski round a very interesting team that is set to surprise some European basketball fans this season.
Galatasaray Medical Park general manager Omer Yalcinkaya:
"It is a strong group with Lokomotiv, Donetsk and Sopot. They all have good rosters and they have experience in European cups. There will be tough games. I don't think we can say which two teams will make the next round. However, I can say that in our domestic league and the Eurocup, our goal is to be on the top, so we will fight on the court and try to hang in there."
BC Donetsk sports director Oleksiy Yefimov:
"In my point of view first of all we need to think about our team and our game. We have six new players and a new coach that is why we need time to become a real team. Let's say that for no on we have a roster with pretty good names but we still need to adjust to each other to make good chemistry. It will be hard to reach Last 16 because in our group we have two extremely strong teams as Galatasaray and Lokomotiv Kuban plus very interesting young team like Trefl Sopot. But for sure we will try to qualify the Last 16 stage. Previous season we also had a strong group in the regular season and in the Last 16 but we used our chance to go to the Quarterfinals, and this year we will try to do our best. We have experienced players, a good coach, and we will give our best effort to advance this year, too."
Trefl Sopot sports director Tomasz Kwiatkowski:
"I just spoke with coach Zan Tabak and he said he was extremely happy to face such a strong opponent in his first year as Eurocup coach. This is the strongest group for sure. We are a young team that will try to be competitive and give our fans a lot of emotions. We will try to win specially on our gym and we will try to be competitive against every opponent. Our philosophy will be hard defense as this is what our coach wants. I am sure we'll have a lot of fun."
