Banvit bags big man Benson
Aug 01, 2014
Banvit Bandirma found an anchor for its frontline in center Keith Benson Jr., who was one of the top players in last season’s FIBA EuroChallenge. The sides agreed to a two-year deal. Benson (2.10 meters, 25 years old) led the EuroChallenge in offensive rebounding (3.3 orpg.) and blocked shots (1.6 bpg.) and was third in scoring (17.3 ppg.) with Belarussian club Tsmoki Minsk, which he led to the competition’s quarterfinals. He was also among the VTB United League leaders in scoring (ninth, 15.6 ppg.), rebounding (third, 7.7 rpg.) and performance index rating (fourth, 18.7). Benson helped Misnk win the Belarussian League championship.
Benson enjoyed a standout college basketball career at Oakland University, where he was a two-time Summit League Player of the Year and the 2010 Lou Henson National Player of the Year in 2010. He made his professional debut with Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari in Italy and has also played for Golden State in the NBA, Sioux Falls and Erie in the NBA D-League and Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters in the Philippines.
