EWE Baskets Oldenburg turned to Tywain McKee to man the point guard position, signing him to a one-year contract on Friday. McKee (1.88 meters, 28 years old) spent last season with Unics Kazan, which he helped to the Eurocup Finals with 7.3 points and 1.9 assists in 24 games. He added 7.0 points and 2.6 assists in the VTB United League to help Unics reach that competition’s semifinals. It was McKee’s second Eurocup season after a standout campaign in 2012-13 with Triumph Lyubertsy, where he averaged 17.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 2.4 steals in 11 Eurocup. He earned 2012-13 Regular Season Game 3 MVP honors with a performance index rating of 42 – 32 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists - in a road win at VEF Riga. He led the 2012-13 Eurocup in PIR per game (23.6) and steals, was second in assists, fourth in scoring and third in fouls drawn (6.3 per game). McKee has also played for BK Minsk 2006 in Belarus and Wollongong Hawks in Australia. He previously studied at Coppin State College for four years to become its all-time top scorer (2,158). He helped Minsk win the Belarusian Cup in 2011 and made it to the FIBA EuroChallenge semifinals with Triumph in 2012.
