Bot Turow Few teams have been as active in the summer market as Polish finalists and ULEB Cup newcomer BOT Turow Zgorzelec, which moved quickly in the off-season market to complete its roster as soon as possible. Turow brought in five new players, while keeping key performers from last season, including Andres Rodriguez, Dragisa Drobnjak and Thomas Kelati. With some new big dogs joining last season's magical bunch, Turow could be one of the surprises of the competition. Newcomers David Logan and Nana Harding join Kelati to form a tandem that will lead Turow's offense next season. Logan is an outstanding shooter, Kelati is an all-around scorer who loves to play in open-court situations, while Nana is a physical player who knows how to use his body in the paint. Natural playmaker Rodriguez will run the show along with newcomer Robert Skibniewski. Harding will find his complement in Drobnjak, a versatile forward who never gives up and who can hit the open outside shot. Robert Witka and Marko Scekic help round out a deep frontcourt, where anybody can step up on any given night. These players will try to grow as a team, as Turow faces the biggest challenge in its short, yet remarkable history.

No team has been rising as fast in Polish basketball quite like BOT Turow Zgorzelec, which is becoming a new alternative to challenge perennial champion Prokom Trefl Sopot. Founded in 1948 as a sports club, Turow opened its basketball section in 1965, with the talented Mieczyslaw Mlynarski and coach Jan Gruca among its first stars. Turow won back-to-back Polish League titles in 1977 and 1978, but faded into obscurity for many years, playing in the Polish second and third divisions. The team won the Polish second division regular season in 2003 and was offered a wild card to get into the top league, but the club rejected it, saying that it wanted to achieve promotion to the first division on its own merit. It happened the following year, as Turow once again won the regular season and advanced to the first division. Once there, players like Charles Bennett and Yann Mollinari helped Turow finish fourth at the end of the 2004-05 regular season. Although the team lost to eventual champ Prokom in the playoff semifinals, basketball madness had taken over again in Zgorzele. The team consolidated its status with a seventh-place finish in the 2005-06 Polish League, returning to the playoffs only to lose against Anwil Wloclawek in the quarterfinals. Last season, Turow upped the ante by bringing in head coach Saso Filipovski, who built up a competitive roster featuring Rodriguez, Drobnjak, Kelati and Lance Williams. With the new-look squad, Turow finished second at the end of the regular season and easily knocked off Stal Ostrow and Slask Wroclaw to make it to the finals. Once again, however, Prokom stood in Turow's way to the trophy. Regardless, the future looks better than ever as Turow makes its ULEB Cup and European competition debuts this season.
