Dynamo Moscow returns to the ULEB Cup this season for the first time since being crowned champions in 2006. And even though much of the roster has changed since then, Dynamo still will be aiming to repeat. The changes started at the top, with coach Svetislav Pesic taking over and brining with him an all-star cast, including Robertas Javtokas, Aleksandar Rasic, Henry Domercant and Niksa Prkacin. And winners Antonis Fotsis and Travis Hansen return, giving the club all it needs to make another run at the top. Rasic, one of the top young guards in Europe, will look to prove himself as the top playmaker. His game smarts, solid shooting and court vision are just three reasons why he should succeed. Petr Samoylenko is a classic pass-first playmaker who can spell Rasic. Domercant is an all-around player, who can score, pass and play good defense. Hansen is an athletic swingman and one of the team's most important players. His injury last season effectively ended the team's Euroleague hopes. Dmitri Domani is a strong and strong-willed wing, who can get the crowd going with his dunks and three-point shooting. Sergei Monya is a big and athletic small forward on th verge of stardom. Fotsis is one of the top power forwards in the competition, who combines a great outside shot with fierce rebounding skills. Javtokas is the definition of an intimidating presence in the paint. His chiseled body and shot-blocking prowess give Dynamo an added dimension on defense. Juri Vasiliev showed himself to be a capable reserve center at the highest levels last season. His soft shooting-touch gives coach Pesic the option of different looks at center. The talent and desire at this club is of no doubt. A high-class organization in every way, Dynamo's goals are clear from day 1: to become the first team to win the ULEB Cup twice. And though it will not be easy, this club has as good a chance as any.

There is no time like the present for Dynamo Moscow, as the club comes off a one-of-a-kind season in which reached the Euroleague Quarterfinal Playoffs.
Dynamo was created in 1923 when Russia was part of the Soviet Union (USSR) and its name was chosen becase Dynamo means 'power in motion'. The club won the USSR Championship in 1937 and 1948, made it to the final in 1944 and also finished third in 1946, 1957 and 1958. Years of domestic obscurity followed, although it lost the 1968 European Cup Winners' Cup final against Slavia Prague. Dynamo finished third in the USSR League four times between 1975 and 1982. Once the Soviet Union disappeared in 1991, Dynamo found new success outside its Russian borders. Dynamo reached the Saporta Cup semifinals in 1991, losing the series to eventual champ PAOK Thessaloniki by one point. Star forward Valeri Daineko alloweed Dynamo to reach the 1996 Saporta Cup finals but Tau stood in its way. One year after that, in 1997, Dynamo disappeared due to financial reasons despite making its Euroleague debut that season. It wasn't until 2001 when Dynamo reappeared and already finished sixth in the 2002-03 Russian League with players like Dmitry Domani, who remains as the team captain. Dynamo did even better in the 2003-04 season, reaching the Russian semifinals with players like Nikos Ekonomou, Nikolay Padius or Damir Mrsic. The 2004-05 season marked its ULEB Cup debut, and even when the team rolled in the regular season, it stepped down in the eighthfinals against Hemofarm. The team also made it to the Russian League finals, losing against CSKA. Dynamo learnt from its mistakes and with players like Mire Chatman, Ruben Douglas, Antonis Fotsis or Lazaros Papadopoulos, the team went undefeated in the 2006 ULEB Cup elimination rounds to lift its first European title. Last season, Dynamo won its Euroleague regular season group against all odds and managed to survive the Top 16, too, losing against eventual champ Panathinaikos in the playoffs. A fourth-place finish in the Russian League left a bittersweet end, but Dynamo now returns to the ULEB Cup as one of the top candidates to lift the trophy.
