by Horst Schneider, Berlin
Alba Berlin strengthened its frontcourt by signing power forward Slavko Stefanovic for the remainder of the season. Stefanovic (26, 205) arrives from Serbian side Mega Aqua Monta Belgrade, where he averaged 19.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in helping the club reach the midway point in the Serbian League in second place. The forward has previous ULEB Cup experience, having played the 2004-05 season for Red Star Belgrade and the 2005-06 season for Hemofarm Vrsac – under his new head coach Luka Pavicevic. In 10 ULEB Cup games for Red Star and 12 for Hemofarm, Stefanovic has averaged 7.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Stefanovic, who missed all of last season recovering from a back injury, started his career in Belgrade with Beopetrol and also played for Lavovi. Berlin is currently tied for third place in Group A with a 3-4 record.
"We have been searching for quite a while for an addition to strengthen our frontcourt,” Luka Pavicevic said on the team’s website. “I am very happy, that we finally could sign a player who brings all the qualities that are important for our game."
