Panellinios adds Brad Newley

Panellinios continued its preparations for the upcoming season Wednesday with the signing of swingman Brad Newley, who arrives from fellow Greek club Panionios. The move comes the day after Panellinios signed point guard Manolis Papamakarios, Newley (200, 23) is a swingman with a fantastic shooting ability. He set a Greek League record last year by shooting 8 for 8 from behind the arc in a game against AEK. Newley grew up with Forestville Eagles in his native Australia, where he also played for Townsville Crocodiles. Last summer he came to Greece to play for Panionios, which he helped clinch a berth in Euroleague. He averaged 11.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in the ULEB Cup and 10.7 points and 3.5 boards in the Greek League. Newley is also a member of the Australian national team with whom he will compete at the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. As a “Boomer” Newley won the gold medal at the 2003 World Junior Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece.
