2008-09 club profile: BC Triumph Lyubertsy
Triumph Lyubertsy Moscow RegionComing off a terrific debut season in the ULEB Cup, Triumph Lyubertsy is ready to show its stuff in the new Eurocup. Last season was the first that Triumph Lyubertsy went under its new name after previously being known as Dynamo Moscow Region. The new name and new management continued the winning tradition at the club, which had built a reputation as a rising power in recent seasons.

Dynamo Moscow Region advanced to back-to-back FIBA Europe Cup final fours in 2004 and 2005, as players like Johnny Taylor and later Nikita Morginov, Chuck Kornegay and Stevin Smith helped the club to respective fourth- and third-place finishes. Back home the club became a regular in the Russian playoffs, though it never managed to climb past the quarterfinal stage. With new management also came a new head coach, Stanislav Eremin, and a host of stars, including Mire Chatman, Terrell Lyday, Ognjen Askrabic and Uros Slokar. Together Triumph was bound to succeed as it went undefeated at home in the ULEB Cup and won its regular season group. Triumph was upset, however, by Artland Dragons by a total of 4 points in the Last 32 round. The story was similar back home, where despite the team’s talent and impressive results, it was unable to get close to a title. Mighty CSKA Moscow stood in the way in the Russian Cup quarterfinals and then – despite finishing fourth in the regular season – Triumph fell in three games to Dynamo Moscow in the playoffs. Still, for the team’s first run together, last season can be season as nothing short of a fine success, which fuels the players, staff and management’s ambitions to get bigger and better and to achieve more than ever in 2009.
