BC Kyiv inks playmaker Scoonie Penn

Scoonie Penn BC Kyiv will have a new floor general this season after signing veteran James "Scoonie" Penn on Wednesday. Penn (178, 31) arrives from Efes Pilsen, where he averaged 10.9 points, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals in 20 Euroleague appearances last season. Penn had some of the best individual performances in his 89-game Euroleague career with Efes, setting career-highs in points, assists and index rating in three different games last season. He was also twice named MVP of the Week last season. Penn has plenty of experience at Europe’s top levels, having played in the Euroleague with Olympiacos, Cibona Zagreb and Scavolini Pesaro as well as Efes. He has also played for Pallacanestro Trieste and Virtus Roma in Italy, Red Star Belgrade in Serbia and Makedonikos Kozani in Greece during his European career. Among his career highlights are winning Croatian championships in 2004 and '06 and being named Big Ten Conference Player of the Year in 1999 when playing for Ohio State University.
